This lesson is about finding the main idea of a text and the supporting detail to prove the the main idea. This text is about a Native American name Sequoya (Se-coy-ah) who created an alphabet for his tribe to be able to write down their stories in a language that has different sounds than English.
What is interesting about Sequoya is that he was considered kind of a loser (or maybe a witch) by the members of his tribe and he ended up doing this amazing thing for them anyway.
The word "smith" mean some who works with metal. In this story Sequoya works as a "silversmith" so he makes things out of silver--plates, cups, forks, knives, maybe jewelry or belt buckles.
IF YOU CAN'T PRINT THIS OFF, JUST DRAW THE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER ON A PIECE OF PAPER. WHEN YOU ARE DONE, TAKE A PICTURE AND EMAIL IT TO YOUR READ 180 TEACHER
